Recap of last week's episode.

We have been following the experiences of two Agents of Cosmic Intelligence, Melchizedek and Layla, here on a mission that started in 200,000 BC. To infiltrate the Rebel forces on the planet, they walked into the near-dead bodies of Blu and Ska around 40,000 BC on the coast of northwestern Spain. Taken into the Rebel Stari-ki’s army, they trekked southward, made a miraculous crossing over the Straits of Gibraltar, and are now discovering Africa.

After his mental phone call with the Shaitan, Stari-ki (now Templar-ji) tells Neva about Agents and Rebels, explaining that Agents believe that God is one and Rebels believe there are many gods and that the one God stole the Universe from them. Neva now understands she is an Agent too, and thus a sworn enemy to the Rebels, who can see their every move. Templar-ji assures Neva they will die to live again and continue their mission, and then they celebrate with the wedding of Queen Neva to General Templar-ji. Laughing and carousing to fool the Rebel eyes in the sky, Templar-ji reveals to Blu and Ska that they are also Agents, and when Neva reveals their names to them, Melchizedek and Layla remember and lock in a long embrace. Suddenly all remember their training in a distant classroom and realize that Templar-ji is Templegard.

Every night they would have a new celebration and the best and bravest of the army and the tribe would get to sit with the four leaders. While drinking and laughing, information was being transmitted and understood and memorized and tested.

Zak-ki repeated the message, laughingly as he’d been instructed because of the observation from above, “Inside you is the one Self that is the whole Universe.” And the others fell over laughing, for the eyes in the sky, but inside, the enormity of the message was aweing them.

Little Li-Li, his new mate who would accompany Zak-ki — he from the army and she from Neva’s tribe — completed with the second half of the message “Some people, and a part of your mind, are trying to keep you from knowing your Universal Self. Keep watchful, especially of your own mind.”

The Rebels didn’t seem to notice a couple of people leaving the tribe each day and trekking off in all directions, or if they did, they were holding their fire, waiting to see what would happen next.

Melchizedek and Layla spent a lot more time together, although wearing their Blu and Ska bodies they did not do hugs except on holidays and other special occasions. They had played brother and sister in the first incarnation they had on this planet, and managed to keep their hands off each other then, so why should it be a problem now? With so much memory of their true selves returned and more returning every day, it was increasingly easy for them to be patient.

They had found a moment to be alone and stole a passionate kiss, seeing each other as their true selves, Melchizedek and Layla.

“I have to admit, although the emissaries and their messages will have a good effect, I won’t mind it at all when the Shaitan vaporizes us,” Melchizedek said, kissing Layla again and again.

By using many of the army and tribe, each doing one small seemingly accidental dropping of something or some other minor move, a leafy tunnel entrance and exit was added to Neva’s tent, allowing her to crawl like a snake a certain distance to secretly be with Templegard during his reports to the high command. Of course, Templegard knew she was within earshot. What no one ever knew was whether one’s blocking was strong enough, so you never knew if you were fooling someone or if they read you like a book.

Though risky, they had agreed that Neva was still the stronger telepath and could find out things he could not without her there. They lived each day knowing it was going to end at some point soon. Meanwhile, a two-emissary team would move out every day, one from the tribe and one from the army.

During one nighttime celebration that had gotten particularly wild with dancing and noise, apparently a sentry had let his guard down, because a child was abducted again. Fortunately the response was so quick that the child was recaptured unharmed. Many of the cannibals including the perpetrators were killed in the action, and with the army and Neva’s tribe now surrounding them, the cannibals realized their lives were probably about to end.

“Was our mission as Agents to come to Earth to wipe out the Rebels?” Neva asked ingenuously.

“No,” Templegard, Melchizedek and Layla said in unison.

Melchizedek said, “It was to bring the Lost Lambs home.” The others slowly nodded.

“What if we try out something with the cannibals besides wiping them out?” Neva asked.

Her plan was to keep the cannibals under observation and at the same time try to treat them as neighbors and to offer them education. This was as radical a thought as had ever been uttered on Earth until that point. Naturally it appealed to the other Agents.

When the call came from the high command that it was time to move the army and its camp followers to an engagement in the East, Stari-ki reported, We are close to a breakthrough in subjugating and indoctrinating the most brutal savages sir. This will have global ramifications and maybe even work on other planets. They got released from the combat assignment to continue the experiment.

This worked right up until Glory Day.
